Waste is not garbage: a public forum on home composting was held

On Wednesday, May 22nd, in the amphitheater of the building of three faculties (Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, Science and Maritime) organized by the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development Sunce was held the first of six special forums within the project “Waste is not garbage”.

The topic was home composting, which was discussed by a longtime associate of Association Sunce, Dada Lerotić and the executive director of Association Sunce Gabrijela Medunić-Orlić.

Visitors, most of whom were students and professors of the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology and members of the Alumni Association from the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology and the Faculty of Economics, were most interested in the content of the composter, i.e. what can and cannot be composted, and in what proportion. The audience had the opportunity to hear expert advice and interesting information on how to dispose of household biowaste in gardens and in small composters that can be kept in the apartment and how to maintain them. The lecturers demonstrated the production of compost and provided details on the most desirable conditions for the proper maintenance of the composting site, such as the ideal temperature and location.

At the end of the forum, the visitors expressed their regret that the collection of biowaste in the area of the city of Split has not yet been ensured and that there is no composting plant that would dispose of the biowaste collected in this way.

After numerous questions and comments from visitors, a reception was held with socializing.

In addition to special forums, as part of the project “Waste is not garbage” implemented by the City of Split and the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development Sunce in order to educate citizens about sustainable waste management, regular forums are held in city districts. You can see the schedule and venue of the forums on the website of the City of Split and on the Facebook page of the Association Sunce.
