The members of the Environmental Council of the City of Split, led by the Sunce Association, continue to work on selected environmental priorities, including the problems of composting.

Following the lecture held by expert Marjan Galović in February, the members of the Council went to Belluno, Italy, on a study trip dedicated to waste management focusing on bio-waste and composting on March 11, 2015. In addition to members of the Split Travel Council, representatives of other local self-government and utility companies from Split-Dalmatia, Šibenik-Knin, Dubrovnik-Neretva and Zadarska County, and members of the Šibenik-Knin County Advisory Council and associate councils from nature parks Lastovo Islands and Telascica have joined in the trip. Thus, the study tour will include representatives of all areas in which the activities of the project “Together for Nature and the Environment” will be carried out.

The entire professional journey, which lasts until March 14, 2015, will be led by Mr. Galovic and will take part in the facilities around Belluno.

Here are the planned visits:

The BIOMAN plant in Maniago (Pordenone) for the treatment of organic waste.
The Dolomiti Ambiente plant in Santa Giustina (Belluno) for anaerobic digestion of waste.
A lecture on advanced waste management techniques with an emphasis on the organization of work and presentation of the Ponte nelle Alpi project will be held by Mr. Ezio Orzes as well as a lecture on the success of the separate collection of waste in Treviso, which counts 554,000 inhabitants, of which 260,000 uses services and more than 80% of waste is collected separately. Representatives will also visit the communal company Contarina and their sorting facility for separately collected waste.

Through this journey, we would like to provide all members of the Council and other participants with new knowledge and information on composting and waste management methods that effectively exploit all renewable components in order to gain insight into the practical application of this type of waste management method with the aim of finding the most favorable model for the city of Split as the largest city in the region should serve as an example of good waste management.
