In May 2025, we do not plan to hold any educational workshops or public events as part of the project “Sailing into STEM Waters – A Map to 2030”. We are using this month to develop and prepare new content and activities that we will be presenting soon. For announcements and updates, we invite you to follow us via our website and social media channels. On the first of every month, we publish an overview of planned activities and important information.
What is STEM?
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These fields form the foundation of modern education and innovation, and their application is increasingly important in addressing social and environmental challenges.
STEM originated in the United States in the early 2000s and quickly spread to the rest of the world due to the significance of these areas for societal and economic development. In the Croatian education system, STEM is recognized as essential for fostering innovation, creativity, and preparing students for the jobs of the future.
The STEM approach encourages analytical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and practical problem-solving—skills that are crucial for future generations.
Activities of the project “Sailing into STEM Waters – A Map to 2030”
As part of this project, we are planning a series of activities that will span over two years, aiming to strengthen the capacities of civil society organizations (CSOs) and provide children and students with a unique opportunity to learn through the STEM approach. Through our activities, we aim to introduce STEM to children and youth in an engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate way, linking it to themes of sustainability and environmental protection. In doing so, we encourage them to think critically, ask questions, and find ways to help nature.
Project partners include the Ecological Association “Krka” Knin, Domovinska Zahvalnost Elementary School, DOBRI Elementary School, the University of Split – Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of Split – Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, and the Association of Chemical Engineers and Technologists Split. We invite you to follow not only our work but also the activities of our partners, whose expertise and contributions make this project even more successful.

The project is implemented with financial support from the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), under the “Effective Human Resources 2021–2027” Programme. It is carried out under the Call for Proposals “Strengthening the Capacity of Civil Society Organizations for Promoting STEM”, with the goal of improving the ability of CSOs to design and implement educational activities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
