Sunce has become a Teaching Unit for the University of Split

The Sunce Association and the Public Institution for the Management of Protective Parts of Nature in the Split-Dalmatia County “More and Krš” have became new teaching sections of the Department for Marine Studies at the University of Split. We are cooperating on the basis of the contracts signed by the Rector of the University of Split on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, prof.dr.sc. Šimun Anđelinović, Head of the Department of Marine Studies, Doc.dr.sc. Josipa Ferri, Director of the Public Institution “More and Krš” Ivan Gabelica, B.Sc. ing and, of course, our executive director of Sunce Gabrijela Medunić-Orlic, dipl. ing.

For a long time, the Association has been focusing on the topic of educating and informing the public across the entire spectrum of projects and activities, addressing the issues of environmental education, sustainable development and socially useful learning.

It is significant that the formalization of cooperation with the University, with which we have successfully collaborated in the past, arrived just before the signing of the contract for a new Sunce’s project “PAZI! – programs of socially responsible learning” funded by the European Social Fund.

Through the new project and the implementation of socially beneficial learning programs will stimulate the active engagement of students, teachers, strengthen inter-sectoral co-operation and promote and encourage socially useful learning for environmental protection and sustainable development, which is the notion of creating teaching units at universities.

As a teaching base, in cooperation with the University of Split and the Department of Marine Studies and their teachers, we will be new “mentors” for young students in all areas in which the association works. The teaching units are conceived as centers where, by linking practice, science and research work, for the students of the University of Split, in this case the Department of Marine Studies, professional practice for the purpose of acquiring specific practical knowledge and skills are organized. Practical teaching or professional practice will be conducted under the supervision and supervision of the teachers of the University of Split, ie the Department of Marine Studies, with the participation of professional persons – mentors of the employees in the teaching unit, all in accordance with the study program and the performance plan of the studies. Students are counted as activities within the curriculum as study activities, and the emphasis is on emphasizing the acquisition of practical and practical skills.
