The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) is the largest network of environmental civil society organizations in Europe. It brings together over 190 member organizations from 41 countries, representing around 30 million individual members. Based in Brussels, the EEB acts as a strong advocate for policies that promote a healthier environment both in Europe and globally.
Key work areas
The EEB addresses challenges related to climate change, waste and energy management, biodiversity and natural resource protection, and the improvement of air, water, and soil quality, while also working to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals. As the only pan-European umbrella organization, covering such a broad range of environmental issues, the EEB focuses on public participation in decision-making, transparency, the rule of law, and fairness in environmental policy.
The EEB influences European and international policymaking by advising institutions, preparing strategic documents, engaging in public advocacy, and assessing the effectiveness of environmental legislation.

Why is EEB membership important for Sunce?
Sunce has been a member of the EEB network since 2006. As a member, we actively contribute to the exchange of information, policy development, and advocacy efforts for environmental protection.
Our focus lies in nature and environmental conservation through initiatives such as biodiversity protection, management of protected areas, reduction of marine litter, promotion of responsible and sustainable waste management and the circular economy, citizen education, and encouraging public participation in environmental protection and decision-making.

Representatives of Sunce participate in EEB working groups, educations, and research activities. Sunce is also involved in EEB’s governance bodies, and as of 2025, we once again have a Sunce representative on the EEB Council.
Sunce cooperates and participates in shaping European policies in various ways. Some of our recent initiatives include:
- expert input for the European Commission’s Public Consultation as part of the Early Warning Report for the EU member states (2022)
- contribution of local and national data for the analysis of environmental goal implementation in Croatia (2015–2022).
- co-signing the European Pact for Future (2023)
- co-signing the open letter Unique opportunities to unlock the potential of the social economy in making the green transition (2024)
- co-signing the open letter to the European Parliament supporting the Proposal for Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (2023)
- co-signing the open letter Adopt an effective compensation right for health and justice for EU citizens (2023)
- co-signing the open letter opposing the European Commission’s deregulation agenda (September 2025) – Deregulation Statement for the State of the European Union speech.pdf.
Membership in the EEB network provides Sunce with access to current European and global environmental initiatives and strengthens our role in advocating for sustainability, environmental protection, and nature conservation.
