In accordance with the Law on Volunteering and Sunce’s internal regulations, any adult who is a member of the association or expresses an interest in volunteering may volunteer with Sunce.

Volunteering on Sunce’s Projects

Our longest-running volunteer program is the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). Last year, we implemented two projects under this program: Solidarity for Green Dalmatia 2022 and Solidarity for Green Dalmatia 2023.

Through these two projects, five international volunteers took part over the course of the year. They participated in educational and communication activities, helped promote environmentally responsible behavior, and supported the implementation of various Sunce activities. Some of them also carried out their own personal projects, which you can read more about here and here. Three local volunteers took on mentoring roles, and one local volunteer organized monthly art therapy workshops for them.

13th Split Biking Tour

It’s well known that the Split Biking Tour is becoming more popular and successful each year. In 2024, 30 volunteers helped ensure the event ran smoothly. In addition to our international volunteers, local Sunce volunteers also joined in, as did students from the Natural Sciences High School, Health School, and members of the Maritime scout group “Spinut.” You can read more in the article about everything they did at our largest public event.

Project From river to sea – let’s be plastic free

Just like in 2023, Sunce spent the summer of 2024 educating young volunteers from around the world about the importance of tackling marine pollution. Alongside our staff, volunteers also conducted educational sessions and did the monitoring of collected waste. You can learn more about the project via this link.

ŠIZIKA

Through this project focused on Sewing, Patches, and Creative Activities, one volunteer became the lead coordinator and organized workshops. She received logistical support from ESC volunteers and local young volunteers, who also learned how to sew. Two other volunteers provided communication support – one with photography and video, the other with writing articles. You can find more details here.

VolonTERRA – Active Schools Initiate Changes!

The project name itself hints that volunteering is what this project is all about. One volunteer helped us research eco-themed picture books and board games and assisted in testing and promoting the board game Gea 5-12. As part of the project, we also trained teachers on how to establish volunteer clubs in schools!

Small Steps for a Sustainable Society – A journey towards environmental awareness

As part of a project aimed at strengthening environmental education and sustainable development, fostering ecological awareness, and encouraging responsible behavior toward the environment, three volunteers supported us in organizing a green field trip for children and delivering an educational program.

What made 2024 special?

In addition to our regular Swap Fairs, which we host every first Tuesday of the month (of course, with the help of our volunteers), we also organized our first Green Swap Fair!

Our Quizos (Sunce’s pub quiz) saw growing attendance, and we hosted four quizzes throughout the year. Volunteers helped with creating questions, reading them aloud, grading, and scoring. At the December quiz, we also held our first public recognition of our most active local volunteers!

We served as a supporting organization for a volunteer who began a new chapter of her life in Spain. You can read her story on our website.

We also participated in the celebration of International Volunteer Day, organized by the Association “MI”, and we nominated two of our most dedicated volunteers for the regional volunteer award as a token of our appreciation for their efforts in 2024.

And last but not least, we’re proud to share that at the end of 2024, we established Sunce’s very own volunteer club – SoleSTerra.
