On World Car-Free Day, September 22nd, Association Sunce organized the Split Biking Tour. This year’s 13th edition gathered nearly 200 cyclists and over a hundred passers-by who, along with volunteers and Sunce employees, joined the fun in Đardin. Everyone present witnessed an unforgettable event full of positive energy and, of course, adrenaline!

After a 12-kilometer cycling route that passed by famous Split landmarks, from St. Francis, around Marjan, and through the city center, the riders gathered in Đardin, where they were greeted with free refreshments and various fun activities.

– The bike ride is a great way for people to come together and promote cycling as a healthy mode of transport. I wish there were more events like this, – emphasized Ante, a cyclist participating in the Biking Tour for the second time.
After riding through Split – the fun continued in Đardin
One of the main attractions that delighted everyone present was the BMX stunts by Trotul. Their spectacular show captivated over a hundred passers-by and tourists who happened to be passing through Đardin at the time.

– You don’t see something like this live very often, and the atmosphere was so intense and exciting. We all simply enjoyed the amazing tricks. I just hope our kids don’t try this at home, – said Jelena, one of the spectators.
BMX workshops were organized for the youngest participants, while the older ones could take part in a cycling version of the Sinj Alka, cheering for their favorites. Riding in the spirit of the traditional Sinj Alka, the top three competitors in the cycling Alka won prizes. Third place received a 50 EUR voucher for Pandora Greenbox restaurant and a bio&bio healthy food package, while the second-place prize was a Split sea kayaking tour for two from Red adventures and cinema tickets for Ekran. The winner of the cycling Alka was awarded a zip line ride for two in Omiš and a bio&bio healthy food package.

In addition to sports and entertainment activities, those interested could visit Sunce’s stands to get information about environmental protection and report ecological issues through the Green Phone iniciative. In 2024, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund co-finances the project “Green Phone – Lend Your Voice to the Environment II!”, as part of which a brochure was distributed by Sunce employees to interested passers-by.

– The atmosphere was fantastic, every activity was so much fun, and we also learned something useful about environmental protection, – said Ana, who attended with her entire family.
Franco, a 12-year-old from Split, the absolute winner of the raffle

Lucky quint winners will enjoy Red Adventures Split sea kayaking tours for two, monthly memberships at Fitness Center Joker, and tickets to Krka National Park.

– Split Biking Tour 2024 wouldn’t have been so successful without the support of our sponsors, partners, and donors. The City of Split, the Split Tourist Board, the Split-Dalmatia County, Split Parking, Promet Split and the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board co-financed the organization of this event. We especially thank the Split Medical School and the Split Natural Sciences School, whose students enriched the Biking Tour’s organization with their enthusiasm and volunteer efforts, – concluded Tihana Arapović, an organizer from Sunce.
Once again, the Split Biking Tour aimed to draw attention to congested roads and the lack of cycling infrastructure in Split, promoting alternative forms of transport such as bicycles. With a fantastic atmosphere and plenty of activities for all generations, Split once again showcased its potential as a city of sustainability and activism. We look forward to the next Biking Tour!
