For the purpose of drafting a Management Plan for the Management of Protected Areas of Split-Dalmatia County within the project “Nature of Dalmatia“, the Sunce Association has continued with the organization of workshops in the past period to ensure the involvement of relevant stakeholders and the interested public in the process itself.
During April 2015, another cycle of workshops was held at the repeated locations in Imotski, Omis, Sinj, Nerežišće and Hvar. A total of 61 people from various institutions, associations and interested citizens participated in the five organized workshops, with the largest number of responses being recorded in the town of Omis. Participants are familiar with the previous results of the previous round of workshops and the proposed structure of the Plan.
Throughout the working part, all participants have made suggestions for activities that need to be implemented over the next 10 years to achieve the goals of protection and possible collaboration.
Improvement of cooperation with the Public Institution has been proposed through a series of activities such as the interpretation of natural and cultural heritage, joint surveillance of protected areas, an organization of joint actions to clean up, educate and inform the local population with special emphasis on school children.
Good governance practices point to the need for planned and permanent co-operation and co-ordination of all stakeholders, as well as institutions that share competence with the Public Institution in the management of the values of protected areas.
