Marine Litter
Marine litter represents one of the world’s fastest growing threats to marine ecosystems with major environmental, cultural, health and economic impacts and consequences.
– Marine litter is a crucial topic not only for European policies, but also for the European ecosystem. That’s why we already know that the solution to the problem of sea pollution with waste should not be looked in the sea, but on land – said Tea Kuzmičić Rosandić, project manager in Sunce and organizer of the conference.

For this reason, the Marine Litter session is the first at the conference and, with breaks, will last the entire first day on September 15th, from 11:15 am to 4:15 pm.
– With this conference, we want to find solutions to reduce marine litter together. I believe that we will build partnerships and strengthen the capacities of participants to implement sustainable Waste management – concluded Kuzmičić Rosandić.
On the second day, September 16th, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, the conference is divided into 3 sessions: Public Policies and Waste Management, Circular Economy and Waste Treatment Technologies and Business Sector and Waste management.

For Plastic-Free Croatian Islands
The conference will also be an opportunity to present the results of the For Plastic-Free Croatian Islands project, within which the conference is organized, and which is financed by The Beyond Med Association.
The project started on October 1st, 2020 and will last until September 31st, 2022. The project implementer is the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development Sunce, and the partners are the City of Stari Grad (island of Hvar), Municipality of Sali (island of Dugi otok) and Zelena akcija. Collaborators on the project are SMILO, Initiative for Zlarin without plastic, and the project is supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature.
The general goal of the project is to contribute to reducing the use of single-use plastics, as well as reducing plastic pollution in the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas, by implementing sustainable waste management measures based on the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle, in the municipality of Sali on Dugi otok and Stari Grad on the island of Hvar.
