Determining the condition of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the ecological network HR4000007 Badija, around Korčula islands and HR3000431 Aquatorium S of Pržina bay and N of Bilin žal bay along Ražnjić peninsula and in Polačište bay

Within the service “Determining the condition of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the ecological network HR4000007 Badija and islands around Korcula and HR3000431 Aquatorium J of Pržina bay and S of Bilin žal bay along Ražnjić peninsula and in Polačište bay” Association Sunce aims to map the area and establish the first monitoring of the seagrass P. oceanica.

Field research was conducted in the period from 21 to 28 June 2020 during which an area of 1019 ha was mapped and Posidonia meadows monitoring was established. The conducted mapping of Posidonia meadows is a necessary precondition for the establishment of monitoring and future adoption of habitat management measures. Conservation of habitat, such as Posidonia meadows, is especially important at the EU level.

Aim/purpose of the service: The research, which includes mapping the area and the first monitoring of P. oceanica meadows, was conducted in the area of Polačište bay and two areas of the ecological network HR4000007 Badija and the islands around Korčula and HR3000431 Aquatorium J of Pržina bay and S of Bilin žal bay along Ražnjić peninsula and in Polačište bay.
