Presented survey results on “green” business among private landlords

On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, in the town library Juraj Šižgorić in Šibenik, ecological association Krka-Knin, a partner on the project “Greening” Dalmatia’s tourist offer, organized a public presentation of the results of research on the attitudes of the landlord towards sustainable tourism, “green” business and ecological certification.

The survey questionnaire shows that 44% of the landlords, cooperating in the research in the area of Šibenik-Knin County, are not at all familiar with the concept of sustainable tourism development. What clearly shows that sustainable and green tourism should not be just concepts that are in the strategies and action plans of Croatian tourism, which therefore leads to the conclusion that more training and interpretation of practical steps are needed, as environmental sustainability is implemented in the daily operations of private renters.

Another interesting discovery of this research is the fact that 84% of the landlords are willing to invest time and money in the ecological certification program in order to grow their own business, 72% of them think that the environmental certificate will contribute to improving the rating of the accommodation facility among the guests. 48% believe that environmental certification would affect the number of overnight stays.

These facts have positively contributed to the development of the environmental certification program for private renters Dalmatia Green, which will soon be presented in the County of Split-Dalmatia and will continue to spread to the Šibenik-Knin County and other Dalmatian counties.
