New EVS Volunteer for FYR Macedonia

Association Sunce is once again host organization for volunteer from Republic of Macedonia. His name is Veljan and he will spend one year in Split and he is expecting one more volunteer who will come in January 2019.

The objective of the project is  to give Veljan a chance for international volunteering, to strengthen non-formal skills, communication skills, independence as well as multiculltural inclusion and managing his budget.           During the project he will do his personal project, from the preparation phase, implementation to the evaluation. In that way he will learn about project management and will develop his ideas in the field of nature protection and environment. The target group with who will work Veljan are local children, youth and local community in general.

The new volunteer has a great knoledge of Croatian. We present him to you with a mini interview.

Q: Veljan, tell us something about yourself.

A: My name is Veljan Parizov, I am 28 and I am from Macedonia, from the town of Kavadarci. I graduated biochemistry in Skopje. I like to meet new people and hang out with my friends. In my free time I am training and running marathons, and I enjoy reading Richard Dawkins’s books.

Q: Why did you apply for this project?

A:  I wanted to go to EVS when I graduated 5 years ago, but at the time I volunteered, then worked in my field and there wasn’t possibility. When I saw this call for participants I knew it was for me, because I was always interested for nature protection and environment and I volunteered in similar organization for a short period. So, it seemed that Association Sunce is the perfect place for my EVS project.

Q: Why did you choose Split and Croatia for your EVS project?

A: In the first place, the topic of the project was the most important, but also the location had a role in the decision to apply. I asked about the city, asked the previous volunteer from Macedonia who was finishing his EVS and applied. I was in Croatia only once before and this is the chance to explore and learn more.

Q: What are your first impressions for Split?

A:  Split is wonderful city, I am already a month here and I feel like home. The coast of the sea and Marjan Forest Park are the perfect places for my morning marathon trainings. I already found Macedonians who are studying in Split, so everything is great. In Association Sunce from the begining I have the support from my coordinators Nastja and Lina and that helped me to adapt faster and better.

Q: Do you have a message for the young people that are thinking to participate in Erasmus+ Programme?

A: Erasmus+ is a great opportunity to meet new people, to present your culture and to learn about topic that you don’t know a lot about. I participated whenever I had the chance and I can say it changed me. EVS is a chance for the young people from 18 to 30 to volunteer in another country for a period of at least 2 weeks to one year. So search your project, ask about the process of applying and do it. Everyone can find something about himself/herself according to his/her interests.

Within the EVS programme Veljan will be part of various activities, such as workshops, lectures, conferences connected with Dalmatia Green and Green Trips, preparation and dissemination of communication materials(brochures, leaflets, promotional videos, data research, market exploring on sustainable tourism via web pages, support in organization of public events – exhibitions, local fairs, events and a lot of other interesting activities.

We hope that Veljan will fulfil his expectations from the project and Association Sunce and from us he will receive motivation and support to continue further into the unknown.
