biciklijada-đardin

Riding a bike is not just fun, it is one of the smartest decisions you can make for yourself and the planet! Cycling makes both us and the environment healthier. Sign up for the 14th Split biking tour and join us in pedaling toward a cleaner future for Split.

Read on to discover all the environmental benefits of cycling compared to driving a car.

Can Split breathe freely?

Our planet is changing due to human activities, the average global temperature is rising and we are all beginning to feel the effects of climate change. In recent years, we have witnessed extreme weather events such as frequent storms, floods, and droughts. You have probably noticed the unpleasant smell of exhaust fumes every day while walking through Split. All of this is caused by higher greenhouse gas emissions produced by burning fossil fuels.

What if we told you that with small everyday steps, you can contribute to a healthier environment? Instead of driving to work, take a bike. Going for an afternoon coffee? Why not pedal to your favorite café? You can get much more done around the city by bike than you think.

If you don’t have your own bike, that’s not a problem, Split Parking and the Nextbike bike-sharing system are here for you. Join the raffle at the 14th Split biking tour and you might win a yearly subscription for renting these city bikes.

Did you know that the average person in Croatia emits around 4.52 tons of CO₂ per year? Cleaner air in urban areas and fewer harmful particles in the air are just some of the benefits of choosing a bicycle instead of vehicles that rely on fossil fuels. If more people cycled around the city, we would breathe in less carbon dioxide (CO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and other harmfull particles.

Silence on two wheels

Did you know that noise has a real, measurable impact on our health and the ecosystem? Animals rely on sound to communicate and navigate their environment, so noise pollution forces them to change their behavior. Noise isn’t beneficial to humans either, it causes stress and disrupts sleep.

Can you imagine sleeping with an open window in the city and hearing complete silence, without the hum of various engines? That’s exactly how it would be if more people chose bicycles instead of cars. Cycling not only allows us to get from point A to point B, but it can also make the streets quieter, giving both animals and people a more peaceful life.

How your choice sparks change in Split?

We are all aware that cities are busy, filled with asphalt and concrete. We also know that, unfortunately, Split does not have adequate cycling infrastructure. You might then be wondering how to even use a bicycle in such an environment.

By starting with ourselves and adopting positive habits, we influence those around us, and thus the network of positive change spreads. The more people in the city start cycling, the greater the need for cycling and green infrastructure, which encourages authorities to provide safe spaces for cyclists, such as parks and bike lanes. By choosing a bicycle, you help your city recognize the value of sustainable mobility and green spaces.
