Green forum is a national network of Croatian associations dedicated to environmental and nature protection. The network focuses on public advocacy, influencing environmental and nature-protection policies and promoting sustainable development in the Republic of Croatia. Founded in 1997, the network now brings together 30 Croatian civil society organisations.
Sunce has been a member of the Green forum coordination for many years and is also one of the nine assembly members elected in 2022 for a three-year term.
Key work areas
The Green forum operates through several key areas that include public advocacy, participation in decision-making processes and monitoring the implementation of environmental policies. The network actively engages in e-consultations, analyses draft laws and strategic documents and initiates meetings with relevant institutions to ensure transparent environmental governance. An important part of its work also includes joint campaigns, educational activities and strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations.
The Green forum plays a key role in nature protection, waste management, and strengthening public participation in environmental decision-making, including the implementation of the Aarhus Convention. Through Green Phone Network of Croatia, member organizations monitor issues on the ground and support citizens in reporting environmental problems, helping ensure greater institutional accountability and more effective environmental protection.
Why is Green forum membership important for Sunce?
Membership in the Green forum enables Sunce to act more effectively in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development at the national level. Through collaboration with organizations that share similar goals, Sunce gains the opportunity to jointly analyze and comment on legislative proposals, participate in the drafting of key strategic documents and advocate for policies that protect the public interest and natural resources.
As a member of the network, Sunce is involved in the working groups for the development of the National plan for creating a supportive environment for civil society 2021–2027 and for the report on the implementation of the Aarhus convention.
Furthermore, through its participation in the network, Sunce has access to the knowledge, experiences and resources of other organizations across Croatia, which helps strengthen the association’s capacities.
By being a member of the Green forum, Sunce further strengthens its role as a relevant and recognized actor in environmental decision-making processes.
