ŠIZIKA: new sustainable Sunce event!

Sunce has a new monthly activity for its members, a sewing workshop, patchwork and creative activities – ŠIZIKA. The first workshop was held on November 30 in the premises of the Info zona, and lasted two hours.

– After more than a year of successful implementation of the Swap Fair, which is held every first Tuesday of the month, we have decided to prepare something new for our citizens. The idea was created on the occasion of the Sustainable Fashion Week, and to realize the idea we were helped by a local volunteer Renata who agreed to share her knowledge of sewing with others. – said Marija Majić, Sunce’s educator and organizer of ŠIZIKA.

It’s time to finally sew those socks with a hole in your closet!

Forget about spending fast and spending money unnecessarily on new garments! ŠIZIKA brings a new look at clothing repair, encouraging participants to learn the basics of sewing, patches, and creative techniques.

– This event continues Sunce’s mission to foster a sustainable lifestyle and provides an opportunity for learning, dialogue, and raising awareness of the importance of extending the lifespan of clothing. – pointed out Aleksandra, a foreign volunteer.

– Given the response and diverse participants, we can conclude that such workshops are needed in our community and that sewing is not a skill that is dying out, but precisely the future. – added Martina Talajić, Sunce’s educator who is herself a lover of sewing.

Learn the basics of clothing repair and refresh your wardrobe without spending money.

Whether you are an experienced sewing artist or a beginner, everyone is welcome to ŠIZIKA. For those who want to know more and be regular visitors to ŠIZIKA, a program has been designed that will guide you from the basics of sewing and patching to independent tailoring. If you just need help repairing your piece of clothing, feel free to join us and leave it to the expert guidance of our volunteers! Meet new people, and exchange ideas, and we will jointly build a world where every needle prick is a step towards a more sustainable tomorrow.

The new workshop is planned for the beginning of 2024, and all interested parties will be notified about the exact date and date through Sunce’s social media and on the Info Zone website. Due to the great interest, it will be necessary to fill out the application form, and preference is given to Sunce’s members.

– A member of  Sunce is very easy to become if you support our mission. The annual membership fee is 10 EUR for the employed and 5 EUR for the unemployed, students and pensioners. Members who volunteer for 10 or more hours are exempted from membership fees for the current year. We have just over 390 members, and all have a common goal: to improve society’s relationship to the environment and nature. – concluded Majić.
