Wetlands are home to 40% of all plant and animal species. They store water, protect against floods, and help combat climate change. On World Wetlands Day, we highlight the importance of protecting and restoring these valuable ecosystems, including Croatian wetlands such as Kopa\u010dki Rit, Lonjsko Polje, and the Neretva Delta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 3 \u2013 Swap Fair<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Swap Fair<\/a> is a monthly event organized by the Sunce Association at Klub Zona. It takes place on the first Tuesday of every month<\/strong> from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and aims to encourage citizens to adopt more sustainable lifestyles, reduce waste, and consume more responsibly. At this Swap Fair, thanks to the project Let\u2019s Set Sail Through STEM Waters \u2013 A Ticket to 203<\/a>0<\/em>, visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in STEM experiments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February 11 \u2013 International Day of Women and Girls in Science<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recycling is important, but reducing waste is always the first and most important step. Less than 20% of the world\u2019s waste is recycled, while most still ends up in landfills. The Sunce Association will participate as an exhibitor at one of the most important regional gatherings of sea and boating enthusiasts, shipbuilders, fishers, and tourism sector representatives\u2014theCroatia Nautic Show<\/strong>. The 18th edition of the event will take place fromMarch 26 to 29, 2026, at Marina Ka\u0161tela in Ka\u0161tel Gomilica<\/strong>. The Sunce stand will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., where visitors can learn about our Adriatic Sea conservation activities<\/strong>, including anchoring education, STEM experiments, and a panel discussion on one of the growing challenges at sea\u2014wastewater from vessels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By switching off lights for one hour, we send a message about the importance of protecting our planet and using resources responsibly. Earth Hour reminds us that even small changes in our daily habits can have a significant impact on the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This training is intended for anyone who wishes to learn more about the sea and actively contribute to its protection. Over the course of two days, participants will learn how to use citizen science tools to record observations at sea, identify invasive species, and monitor seagrass meadows and other changes in the marine environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside engaging lectures, practical examples, and networking opportunities, participation in the training is free of charge with prior registration by May 5, 2026<\/strong>. The training is organized within the framework of the Interreg BIOPRESSADRIA<\/a> project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take part in an environmental pub quiz and test your knowledge for a chance to win valuable prizes. The quiz will be held at Caffe Bar Tinel (Cvite Fiskovi\u0107a 3), starting at 7:00 p.m. Participation is free, and registration is available via an online form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May 20 \u2013 World Bee Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Bees are essential for our food systems and biodiversity. They pollinate around 75% of crops that produce fruits, vegetables, and seeds. In addition to honey, they also produce wax, which can be used to create natural, reusable alternatives to plastic. Their survival is an important indicator of environmental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May 21 \u2013 European Natura 2000 Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Natura 2000 network protects Europe\u2019s most valuable habitats and species. Through the WASTEREDUCE<\/strong> project, strategies and solutions are being developed to reduce waste in protected areas and Natura 2000 sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the square in front of Split\u2019s fish market. Visitors can look forward to an engaging program dedicated to sustainable fisheries, tourism, zero-waste gastronomy, and innovative ways of using marine litter.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The festival is organized as part of the Interreg Italy\u2013Croatia FishNoWaste<\/strong> project, with the aim of bringing topics such as fisheries, marine conservation, and sustainable practices closer to citizens through interaction between fishers, scientists, associations, and the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May 22 \u2013 Sustainability Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The festival will take place at Split\u2019s Green Market (Pazar), in front of Tommy and next to the flower stalls, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is organized by a coalition of Split-based associations on the occasion of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development and as part of the campaign \u201cCroatia Volunteers.\u201d<\/em> Visitors can expect information stands, educational and interactive activities, workshops, and programs for children, youth, and adults, all aimed at promoting sustainable development, volunteering, and active citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May 24 \u2013 European Day of Parks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Parks and protected areas safeguard biodiversity, natural ecosystems, and landscape values. Their protection is crucial for nature conservation and for ensuring a sustainable future for people and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 3 – World Bicycle Day<\/strong>

The bicycle is a simple and sustainable means of transportation that reduces pollution and contributes to a healthier lifestyle. The Split Cycling Event<\/a> brought together 216 cyclists and around 300 participants, demonstrating how strongly citizens recognize the value of active and sustainable mobility in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 5 \u2013 World Environment Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Environmental pollution is one of the greatest challenges of our time. According to United Nations data, around 11 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans every year. This day reminds us that responsible habits and care for nature are essential for a healthy planet and a sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 5 \u2013 International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Illegal fishing poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems, fish stocks, and the livelihoods of fishers. Combating such practices is essential for protecting the sea and ensuring the sustainable use of marine resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 6\u20137 \u2013 Eco Festival Primo\u0161ten<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The Pongo Diving Club is organizing the Eco Festival in Primo\u0161ten. Sunce will participate by hosting a STEM workshop on the theme \u201cThe Importance of a Healthy Sea\u201d<\/em> for younger generations, presenting the educational exhibition \u201cPlasticamente \u2013 Plastic (Night)mares\u201d<\/em> from the FishNoWaste project, and screening an AI-generated film about Posidonia seagrass created as part of the BIOPRESSADRIA project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 8 \u2013 World Oceans Day and Nature Protection Day of Croatia\u2019s Mountain Regions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 16 \u2013 Final International Conference <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The AWASTER <\/a>Final International Conference brings together representatives from public authorities, businesses, educational institutions, and support organizations to discuss how circular economy initiatives can move from pilot actions to wider implementation and long-term impact.

The event will present the main achievements and lessons learned within the AWASTER project, together with examples of good practices and experiences from other EU initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 16 \u2013 World Sea Turtle Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Sea turtles play a vital role in marine ecosystems, but they are increasingly threatened by climate change and plastic pollution. Rising sand temperatures and microplastics pose additional risks to their survival. The ASPEH<\/a> project carries out activities focused on their conservation and the protection of marine habitats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 18 \u2013 Sustainable Gastronomy Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Research <\/a>conducted as part of the Plastic-Free Croatian Island<\/em> project highlighted the importance of reducing plastic waste in the hospitality and tourism sectors and finding more sustainable solutions\u2014both on our plates and in our glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
