Today, the average European Union resident buys <strong>19 kg of clothing, footwear and other textiles per year.<\/strong> Because of this habit, both the fashion industry and its consumers must step away from the fast-fashion trend and turn toward producing and wearing higher-quality textiles that last longer and can be<strong> repaired, repurposed or recycled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from the European Commission, textiles are the fourth<strong> largest source of environmental and <a href=\"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/projects\/desirmed-demonstration-and-mainstreaming-of-nature-based-solutions-for-climate-resilient-transformation-in-the-mediterranean\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/projects\/desirmed-demonstration-and-mainstreaming-of-nature-based-solutions-for-climate-resilient-transformation-in-the-mediterranean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">climate pressure<\/a><\/strong> after food production, housing construction and transportation. In urban areas like Split, the proper disposal of used clothing is becoming an increasingly important issue for environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles. These platforms are easy to use and also provide a great opportunity to earn money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local flea markets, such as the one at <strong><em>Kocka<\/em> in Split,<\/strong> offer space for selling and buying used clothing, supporting both sustainability and the local economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunce organizes a<a href=\"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/news\/we-answer-questions-about-the-swap-fair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <strong>Swap Fair<\/strong> <\/a><strong>every first Tuesday of the month<\/strong> at <em>Klub Zona<\/em> in Split. Participants can bring up to five well-preserved items and exchange them for vouchers, which can then be used to take other items. They can be taken to recycling yards, textile bins, or repurposed for new uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Recycling yards<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Split, residents can dispose of textile waste at recycling yards such as <strong>Karepovac, Ori\u0161ac, Pujanke and Kopilica<\/strong>. They must also leave the area around the containers clean and tidy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Textile bins<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Split has installed mobile recycling units in various locations, including<strong> GK \u017dnjan, Mertojak and Lovret<\/strong>. By donating, selling, swapping and repurposing, we manage our clothing sustainably. Local initiatives like <strong><em>Sharing is Caring<\/em> and the <em>Swap Fair<\/em><\/strong> show how community efforts can contribute to a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So next time you feel like throwing something away\u2014or buying something new\u2014think twice.
