We will seek answers to these questions at the panel discussion and workshop “Business Sector for a Sustainable Split: How Local Action Can Lead to Systemic Change?”<\/strong>, which will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Split Technology Park in Dra\u010devac, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Split faces challenges that are not only local but also global \u2013 from waste management to sustainable business. Citizens often recognize problems in their own community, but systemic obstacles discourage them from proposing or implementing changes. The business sector, local authorities and the civil sector together can offer solutions, but how can this cooperation be translated into concrete steps?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel will include Bojan Ivo\u0161evi\u0107<\/strong> (Deputy Mayor of the City of Split), Ivica Karoglan<\/strong> (Director of the utility company \u010cisto\u0107a), Tea Kuzmi\u010di\u0107 Rosandi\u0107<\/strong> (Head of the Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Department, Sunce), Sla\u0111ana Pavlinovi\u0107<\/strong> Mr\u0161i\u0107<\/strong> (Faculty of Economics, Split), Mario \u010culi\u0107<\/strong> (Restaurant Makarun Split), Ivana Abaza<\/strong> (Orbico, FABUspot perfumery) and Irina Salvezani<\/strong> (Split Apartments Salvezani).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will bring together experts and representatives from various sectors to explore practical steps towards a more sustainable Split through dialogue and exchange of ideas. Participants will have the opportunity to hear different perspectives \u2013 from representatives of local government and utility companies, through the private sector, to environmental experts and civic engagement. The panel discussion will discuss the circular economy, sustainable business practices and key challenges facing the City of Split and the Split-Dalmatia County.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

The event is organized as part of the Green Telephone \u2013 Lend your voice to the environment II<\/strong>! project, co-financed by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 The Green Phone is a free tool that allows citizens to report problems related to the environment and nature, and we at Sunce receive more than 200 cases annually \u2013 many of them related to waste management. We invite you to actively get involved and use the Green Phone, because repairing the consequences of damage is always more difficult and expensive than preventing threats in time. Each report changes the system<\/strong> and can be crucial for protecting our environment, \u2013 said Maja Juri\u0107<\/strong>, Head of the Communications and Advocacy Department at Sunce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second part of the event, participants will actively participate in a workshop with the aim of collecting opinions and views of relevant stakeholders for the adoption of a joint Action Plan (Italy-Croatia) which will contain a set of activities to encourage the sustainable use of resources and the principles of the circular economy, including the implementation of sustainable practices within the business sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop is being carried out as part of the AWASTER<\/strong> project from the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 cross-border cooperation programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 It is estimated that 80% of marine litter originates from land, so it is essential to adopt the principles of circular waste management into business processes as soon as possible<\/strong>. More sustainable business is key to preserving the Adriatic, \u2013 emphasized Tea Kuzmi\u010di\u0107 Rosandi\u0107, Head of the Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Department, Sunce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
