On Earth Day, over 800 children participated in a rich program of events organized by the Association for Environment, Nature\u00a0and Sustainable Development Sunce<\/strong>. With the aim of informing, linking and acting, a visit to Split’s urban garden<\/strong> for young people, primary and secondary schools, competitions and the Eco Film Festival for the mature audience was organized.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday and Thursday, 11 kindergartens and 1 elementary school<\/strong> visited the first Zelenpoje urban garden<\/strong> in Croatia where the Green Spirit<\/strong> Spiral and Sunce Association educators<\/strong> learned about plants in the garden, learned the basics of sustainable development, composting, waste separation<\/strong> and gardening<\/strong>. For the end of the visit, the children planted their seedlings, which will complement the already rich garden with a rod, hooks, apples, pearls, figs …<\/p>\n

Friday morning was a sign of anticipation and celebration of the students from 14 schools<\/strong> participating in the contest “Before and After – Earth Day Students<\/strong> 2016″<\/strong>, which has traditionally been organized by the Sunce Association in collaboration with \u010cisto\u0107a Split d.o.o.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

In addition to primary schools this year, high school students attended the competition. Sunce educators had a difficult task in choosing the winner because the students had very creatively and imaginatively edited the school environment<\/strong>, supplemented the separate waste collection grounds, created minor<\/strong> pieces of art from recycled materials and promotional videos for environmental protection.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All class projects were rewarded with educational books, while the best was awarded with a Green Day Tour<\/strong> organized by the Sunce Association.<\/p>\n

1st prize in the category of elementary schools (lower grades) – Gripe Elementary School,<\/strong><\/a> project: Recycle – We are guarding Planet Earth !
\n1st prize in the category of elementary schools (higher classes) – O\u0160 Lu\u010dac<\/strong><\/a>, project: Can we make a picture book from waste?
\n1st prize in high school category – Split School of Crafts<\/strong>, project: Transforming waste into decoration<\/p>\n

The Thursday was also marked with the beginning of the first Split Eco Film Festival<\/strong> in cooperation with Kinoteka Golden Gate<\/strong><\/a> and Green Action<\/strong><\/a>. After answering questions about real climate damage and the mysterious TTIP, Friday will offer information about Croatia’s potential for renewable energy sources<\/strong> and about ecological agriculture and permaculture as a peaceful revolution against the unsustainable system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
