{"id":2421,"date":"2015-12-03T12:17:00","date_gmt":"2015-12-03T12:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sunce.itlaganini.org\/en\/green-forum-appealed-to-the-parliament-stop-climate-chaos\/"},"modified":"2017-12-14T13:04:32","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T13:04:32","slug":"green-forum-appealed-to-the-parliament-stop-climate-chaos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/news\/green-forum-appealed-to-the-parliament-stop-climate-chaos\/","title":{"rendered":"Green Forum appealed to the Parliament &#8211; STOP CLIMATE CHAOS!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cop21.gouv.fr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>United Nations Conference on Climate Change<\/strong><\/a> held in Paris, activists of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeleni-forum.org\/novosti\/naslovnica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Green Forum<\/strong><\/a>, the national network of environmental NGOs, held a protest action today, before the constitutive session of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sabor.hr\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Croatian Parliament<\/strong><\/a> asking <strong>new MPs to provide concrete measures for achieving low- carbon development<\/strong>. Activists have argued that new parliamentarians, as well as the future <a href=\"https:\/\/vlada.gov.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>government<\/strong><\/a>, require the topic of climate change to be on top of the list of priority issues.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives have shared an appeal explaining how the <strong>transfer to renewable energy for the next few years at all levels will be key to combating climate change<\/strong>. <strong>The Croatian Parliament has a great responsibility<\/strong> because they are the last one that can still do something to promote sustainable development in Croatia and ensure our appropriate action to <strong>prevent climate chaos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the case of projects such as <strong>drilling of the Adriatic for oil and the construction of a coal-fired power plant Plomin C<\/strong>, Croatia would have gone in a <strong>defeated direction<\/strong> of its energy policy for the next few decades and would significantly increase its contribution to climate change. Following the recent <strong>public discussion of the <a href=\"http:\/\/mzoip.hr\/doc\/radna_verzija_dokumenta.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Low-carbon Strategy<\/a><\/strong>, this document will come before parliamentarians who, <strong>in contrast to the idea of low-carbon development, in all scenarios include the construction of a new coal-fired power plant<\/strong>. This will be one of the first tests for this session, where it is <strong>necessary that such a strategy be rejected by the members of the Strategy<\/strong>, &#8220;said Toni Vidan, head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/zelena-akcija.hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Green Action<\/strong><\/a> Energy Program.<\/p>\n<p>The Paris agreement should be even more ambitious than the previously adopted goal of world governments to <strong>ensure that global temperatures rise is below 2 \u00b0 C<\/strong>, which is the limit for which scientists say <strong>if we want to avoid catastrophic consequences for humans and ecosystems.<\/strong> If we want to achieve this goal, 80% of the well-known fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) must remain unused and as a global society, we must <strong>get out of the &#8220;fossil era&#8221;<\/strong> by the middle of the century.
