{"id":2317,"date":"2014-04-30T10:32:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-30T10:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sunce.itlaganini.org\/en\/sea-med-project-launched-new-business-ideas-for-lastovo-and-telascica-nature-parks\/"},"modified":"2021-11-02T15:59:16","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T14:59:16","slug":"sea-med-project-launched-new-business-ideas-for-lastovo-and-telascica-nature-parks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/news\/sea-med-project-launched-new-business-ideas-for-lastovo-and-telascica-nature-parks\/","title":{"rendered":"SEA-Med Project launched &#8211; New business ideas for Lastovo and Telascica nature parks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n\tProject&nbsp;<strong>SEA-Med Croatia<\/strong>&nbsp;is a continuation of successfully conducted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/projects\/strengthening-of-the-marine-protected-areas-network-in-croatia-medpan-south?lang=en\"><strong>MedPAN South<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;pilot project, in which Sunce and partners developed management plans for the three marine protected areas (National Park Brijuni and two nature parks, Lastovo Archipelago and Telascica) and through a series of trainings raised the capacity of staff of all five public institutions for management of marine protected areas (the ones already mentioned plus national parks Kornati and Mljet).<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tGoal of the Project SEA-Med in Croatia is&nbsp;<strong>development of sustainable economical activities<\/strong>&nbsp;in nature parks&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.telascica.hr\/index.php?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Telascica<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pp-lastovo.hr\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>&nbsp;Lastovo Archipelago<\/strong><\/a>. Specifically, project aims at<strong>&nbsp;implementing the Management Plans<\/strong>&nbsp;of Lastovo Archipelago and Telascica nature parks;&nbsp;<strong>developing a sustainable tourism plan<\/strong>&nbsp;to advance sustainable tourism practices,&nbsp;<strong>promote nature-based tourism initiative<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>identify MPA financing mechanisms<\/strong>; as well as&nbsp;<strong>promote sustainable fisheries<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>Project SEA-Med Croatia is coordinated and implemented by Association Sunce<\/strong>, in partnership with&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/mediterranean.panda.org\/?referer=pandaorg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>World Wide Fond for Nature<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;(WWF),&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mzoip.hr\/default.aspx?id=3967\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mint.hr\/default.aspx?id=4493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ministry of Tourism<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dzzp.hr\/eng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>State Institute for Nature Protection<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and public institutions for management of nature parks Telascica and Lastovo Archipelago.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>Project duration<\/strong>: 1st April 2014 \u2013 28th February 2017<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>Budget<\/strong>: 324.000,00 \u20ac<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>Project Donors<\/strong>:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.mava-foundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MAVA Foundation<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ffem.fr\/site\/ffem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>FFEM<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>EU<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unepmap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>UNEP\/MAP<\/strong><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cepf.net\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CEPF<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>The SEA-Med project will combine different approaches, tailored to local needs and contexts, including:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\u2022<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>Building the capacity of MPA practitioners to plan and manage their MPAs and resources within, and creating a group of skilled trainers that can create sustainability in building capacity for MPAs;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\u2022<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>Enabling participatory planning and stakeholder engagement to MPA management, promoting inter-sector conflicts resolution and securing ownership and buy-in from local stakeholders; creating engagement and cooperation between businesses and the MPA management;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\u2022<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>Identifying and assessing feasible financing mechanisms at site level, national level and regional level; that can alleviate MPA dependency on public funding;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t\u2022<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>Developing communication initiatives, at site, national and regional level, focused on advertising MPAs as valuable tools to deliver social and economic benefits in additional to their conservation value.<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\t<strong>Project objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Through a step-by-step, multi-stakeholder approach, develop and implement a tourism management plan for Lastovo Islands and Telascica Nature Parks including a financial\/business plan, a monitoring plan and a communication, education and marketing\/outreach program &#8211; to adopt best practices and identified mechanisms to create financial sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>2. Enhance the appreciation, support and understanding of general public, decision-makers and investors about the ecological, social and economic values of the Lastovo Islands and Telascica Nature Parks.<\/p>\n<p>3. Ensure that the conservation communities (MPA practitioners, NGOs and public administrations\/authorities) have the capacity, skills and tools to actively engage in the planning and development of sustainable economic activities in Lastovo Islands and Telascica Nature Parks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n\t&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n\tProject SEA-Med Croatia is a part of a wider regional&nbsp;<strong>Project SEA-Med \u2013 The \u201cSustainable Economic Activities in Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas\u201d<\/strong>,<strong>&nbsp;led by WWF-MedPO<\/strong>.
