{"id":23157,"date":"2023-11-10T13:18:11","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T12:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/?p=23157"},"modified":"2024-01-03T11:50:28","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T10:50:28","slug":"life-artina-hands-on-training-and-presentation-of-the-home-composter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/en\/news\/life-artina-hands-on-training-and-presentation-of-the-home-composter\/","title":{"rendered":"LIFE Artina hands on training and presentation of the home composter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After five years of the LIFE Artina \u2013 &#8220;Seabird Conservation Network in the Adriatic&#8221; (LIFE17 NAT\/HR\/000594) the time has come to present the educational programs created through the project to interested public institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hands-on-training-in-nature-park-telascica\">Hands-on training in Nature Park Tela\u0161\u0107ica<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, we selected to have this practical training at the Nature Park Tela\u0161\u0107ica in their recently inaugurated Interpretation Information Center Grpa\u0161\u0107ak. What is common to all are the threats that threaten all kinds, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li>marine litter,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rats,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>competition of certain seabirds with other seabird species,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>light pollution,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bycatch,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduction of suitable habitats for seabirds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the educational programs of LIFE Artina, we introduced children of kindergarten age, as well as lower and upper grades of elementary school to these threats. Programs in a simple, fun and age-appropriate way introduced children to problems that seabirds regularly encounter. To effectively present the programs to educators in public institutions, we organized a workshop with kindergarten children at &#8220;Orkulice&#8221; kindergarten in Sali, complementing the hands-on training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Presentation of a home composter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During this visit to Nature Park Tela\u0161\u0107ica, we introduced the household composter GG \u2013 02 by <a href=\"https:\/\/sunce-st.org\/vijesti\/poziv-na-predstavljanje-kompostera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">INTERZERO<\/a> to all those interested. This home composter is a device intended for use within the facility, intending to reduce the share of biowaste in the total amount of mixed municipal waste. This involved declaring 5 new Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and extending 2 existing ones.This was achieved by identifying key areas of particular importance for birds in the south of Croatia, focusing primarily on the Audouin\u2019s gull, Yelkouan and Scoploli\u2019s shearwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the project, we also assessed the main negative impacts on seabird populations on land and at sea and defined activities that mitigate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hands-on training was organized by the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development \u201cSunce\u201d through the LIFE Artina project. The project is co-financed by the LIFE Program of the European Union, the Office for Cooperation with NGOs of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.
