On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, the presentation of the LIFE Artina project – eabird Conservation Network in the Adriatic was held at the Ivan Viti\u0107 Cultural Center in Komi\u017ea on the island of Vis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zrinka Jakl from Association Sunce introduced the visitors to the main information and presented the goals and activities of the project, especially those related to fisheries, while Sven Kapelj from the Biom Association introduced the participants to the species that the project deals with – the Mediterranean gull, caucal and gregul, and the threats to their preservation.<\/p>\n\n\n

As bycatch, i.e. the seabird bycatch during fishing, is one of the possible threats to the preservation of these rare birds, in cooperation with colleagues from the Ivo Pilar Institute from Zagreb, a survey of Komi\u017ea fishermen was conducted in order to investigate the mutual influence of fishermen and seabirds. The goal of the research is to understand and assess the main negative impacts on seabird populations on land and at sea, and to define activities that will mitigate them.<\/p>\n\n\n

Thank you to all the participants, primarily the Komi\u017ea fishermen who responded and shared valuable information from the field, and to the City of Komi\u017ea and the Vis Archipelago Geopark for their support in organizing the presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LIFE Artina project – “Seabird Conservation Network in the Adriatic” is co-financed by the LIFE Program of the European Union under contract number LIFE17 NAT\/HR\/000594. The project started on September 1, 2018, and will end on August 31, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total project budget: <\/strong>\u20ac1,921,387<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contribution of the LIFE Program of the European Union:<\/strong> \u20ac1,152,832 (60.00% of the total project budget) <\/p>\n\n\n\n
