International cooperation to protect Posidonia meadows from anchoring! At the invitation of the European Commission and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy, the president of the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development Sunce Zrinka Jakl participated in the international meeting “Anchors Away”, which was held on November 21 and 22, 2019 in Athens.<\/p>\n\n\n

At the meeting, leading experts discussed the destruction by anchoring of one of the most important habitats of the Mediterranean Sea – Posidonia meadows. Numerous solutions were presented, such as ecological anchorages, navigation charts with marked meadows, special laws for the protection of meadows, methods of monitoring and informing and raising the awareness of boaters.<\/p>\n\n\n

We also visited the Greek naval base, which pleasantly surprised us with its ecological considerations and environmental protection measures. Among them is waste separation in the very confined space of submarines. If it is possible to separate waste at a depth of three hundred meters – it is also possible in our homes.<\/p>\n\n\n
