Seas At Risk<\/strong> is a European network of environmental and nature protection organizations that advocates for policies to protect seas and oceans. Its mission is to ensure the resilience of marine ecosystems to climate change and human-induced threats such as overfishing and plastic pollution<\/a>. To prevent further biodiversity loss, it is crucial to restore marine ecosystems and establish effective marine protected areas<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The network brings together 33 organizations from 15 European countries and has been advocating for sea protection<\/a> at the European and international level for more than 30 years. Headquartered in Brussels<\/strong>, Seas At Risk actively collaborates with the institutions of the European Union<\/strong>, the United Nations<\/strong>, and other institutions and expert bodies that shape marine governance policies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key areas of work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Seas At Risk network cooperate on a range of marine protection initiatives, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • advocating for the sustainable use of seas and marine resources, which includes:\n

    • reducing destructive fishing practices and using selective fishing gear<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • developing environmentally friendly practices in aquaculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • promoting sustainable maritime and renewable energy use of marine space with minimal impact on habitats and species<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • reducing plastic and microplastic pollution<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • raising public awareness through educational and information campaigns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
