Creating the study “Professional basis for the declaration of a marine protected area at cape Stupišće – Vis island” in implementation of the “Argos” project as part of the Italy-Croatia cross-border cooperation program 2014-2020.

As part of this service, the Sunce Association is preparing an expert study for the need to create an expert basis for declaring the Stupišće cape on the island of Vis (Komiža) a protected area in the category of a special reserve. Based on Art. 124 of the Law on Nature Protection (Official Gazette 80/13, 15/18, and 14/19), the expert basis is an integral part of the proposal for the act on the declaration of a protected area, and it is prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

In addition to some previous research, the biological value of this area was also identified through research conducted by the Sunce Association in 2020 as part of the EU project ADRIREEF.

The purpose of declaring a protected marine area is to protect and restore natural habitats, increase the fish stock, and preserve biodiversity, as our greatest natural wealth.
