Lastovo has solemnly presented the Sustainable Tourism Plan of the Lastovo Nature Park, whose main goal is to become a recognizable tourist destination that promotes the preservation of the natural values and traditions of the islands. The implementation of the Plan will contribute to the sustainable financing of the local community and give visitors the opportunity to become part of the lasting coexistence of man and nature.
The objectives of the Plan are to improve the tourist infrastructure, contribute to the establishment of efficient waste management and wastewater management, increase the visibility of the islands as a protected area and eco-tourism destinations and to improve the supply of tourist programs and content.
“Lastovo will make a breakthrough in the number of promotional materials and activities for tourists, starting from educational trekking and cycling trails, the star constellation charts on the night sky of Lastovo, tourist maps, promotional videos, Lastovo cookbooks and similar promotional tools in line with the principles of sustainable tourism,” said Jelena Matoković, expert associate of the Nature Park of Lastovo.
There are also funds in the local camp where solar panels are installed, which also leads to greater efficiency and energy savings.
Sustainable tourism development was led by the Association Sunce, the Nature Park of the Lastovo Islands and its partners, as part of the SEA-MED project and the EU Project “Together for Nature and Environment”.
“It is important to emphasize that the bearer of the plan is Lastovo Archipelago Council of Nature Park. The Co-operation Council is made up of representatives of the local community and it was established to make the Plan with as much involvement of the local community as one of the prerequisites for its successful implementation”, concluded Gabrijela Medunić-Orlić from the Sunce Association.
