The green telephone as a service to assist citizens in matters relating to the environment, nature and their protection was established in 1992 and has since served as a link between citizens and competent institutions in addressing the issues mentioned.
Since then, the Green Phone Network has been developed for the whole of the Republic of Croatia with a unified way of receiving calls and solving them and to maintain a unique record. Formal Green Phone Network was established in September 1999 with the financial support of the AED (Academy for Educational Development) by the seven environmental protection associations. These are Green Action from Zagreb, Eko Pan from Karlovac, Ecological Society Žmergo from Opatija, Green Istria from Pula, Sunce from Split, Kap Života from Gospić, Society for Nature Protection Slavonia and Baranja from Osijek.
The network provided a unique telephone number for the whole of Croatia 072 123 456 through which citizens can report environmental problems or request information at a local call price. Calls from any part of Croatia are redirected to the nearest association. By mutual agreement, each association covers the county in which it has its headquarters and some of the associations cover the neighboring counties.
Thus, the Sunce Association covers the area of Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
Help with Green Phone is completely free for all citizens.
The activists and volunteers of the Green Phone together with the citizens work to solve the problems most often in cooperation with the competent institutions. Up to now, about 30,000 cases have been reported by the Green Phone Network, which indicates that citizens are aware of the environment and that they have recognized the quality of Green Phone’s performance that is fulfilling expectations. The investigation showed that 49% of the reported cases were successfully resolved.
In the framework of the “Partnership for the Environment” project, we conducted a survey and collected data on the operation of the Green Phone at Green Phone Centers throughout Croatia for 2014 and 2015. The survey gives us an insight into the most often categories of calls, the percentage of successfully settled issues, identified problems in cooperation with the relevant institutions and other interesting and useful data on the Green Phone work. We bring the full report on the link below.
