The first half of 2024 has passed during which we have diligently worked on your applications submitted through the Green Phone service. The semi-annual report indicates a total of 51 of your calls, of which 25 cases have been resolved.

As a reminder – Green Phone is a free tool that provides citizens with information and advice and helps in solving environmental problems in local communities. Over the past six months, we have received various reports that have enabled us to take steps towards a cleaner and healthier environment. Your dedication and activity in reporting environmental issues are of great importance to our collective progress.

The most reports are in the waste category

Thirteen reports were received from Split, and 38 reports came from other areas. Residents outside of Split are increasingly aware of the Green Phone service, which the legal team of Sunce welcomes.

As in previous years, most reports were received in the waste category (20). We must highlight that coastal counties still have the biggest problem with illegal construction, especially regarding the filling and development of beaches against regulations.

Something we are truly proud of is the fact that most of the calls we receive are based on questions about further problem-solving and advice for future actions that citizens can take. Consequently, we can say that most citizens have begun to take the primary steps towards solving environmental problems on their own. Their calls and reports to the Green Phone service, interest in participation and active involvement in resolving cases truly represent hope for faster and more efficient resolution of environmental issues in the future. We are happy to continue being a vigilant eye and support in the fight for a cleaner and healthier environment for all citizens of the Republic of Croatia.

All above is confirmed by the recorded decrease in the number of reports during the first half of 2024 via the ‘Green Phone’ compared to the previous half-year period in 2023. This fact may also indicate greater engagement in the work of administrative-legal authorities and public institutions in the Republic of Croatia, which would be worthy of recognition.

Additionally, a challenge we faced at Sunce was slower processing of reports for almost three months due to the departure of individuals employed in that service. However, we are pleased to inform you that in June, we welcomed a legal counsel, Ksenija Adžić, who has already started working on the reports. During the transition period at the Green Phone, we were assisted by Milijana Bogdanoska, our ESS volunteer from North Macedonia. Milijana holds a master’s degree in business law and since March 2024, she has provided invaluable assistance with Green Phone cases.

Also, we proudly launched another project approved under the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund tender for civil society organizations. In 2024, the Fund will co-finance the project ‘Green Phone – Lend Your Voice to the Environment II!’ with a donation amounting up to 10,600.00 EUR. Therefore, please continue to report all environmental issues. Your reports are crucial for maintaining our environment clean and healthy. Together, we can achieve even more!
